Seasonally changing beauty, Tokachi
Tokachi is situated in the vast Tokachi plain and areas centering Obihiro except the Pacific Ocean shores, have continental climate.
In spring, the temperature is relatively high as dry foehn seasonal winds blowing strong off the Hidaka Mountain Range.
In summer, the coast area has stable temperature even in the middle of the day as the gas (sea fog) rises, but the temperature of the inland area remains high which causes continued crisp and sunny day.
In winter, the coldest temperature goes down to -30℃ at the cold areas caused by cold continental high pressure. However, away from mountain areas has little snow with continued sunny weather because Hidaka Mountain Range obstructs the snow clouds.
Annual rainfall is very few since sunshine duration is one of the longest in Japan.
Since the temperature difference between summer and winter runs over 60 degrees in Celsius, Tokachi’s seasonal change creates spectacular natural beauties and each season displays the magnificent impact on visitors.

Winter Clothing

While traveling, it is good to wear clothing on another since the weather can change drastically. Even in summer time, it would be better to have a jacket or a wind breaker to easily keep you warm if you go to the forest or sea shore. Especially in winter season, you need to wear overcoat, scarf, hat, globes, etc. against the cold if you go outside for a long time. However, it is pretty warm in every building since it has huge stoves. Wearing thick clothing inside of the house will make it easy to catch cold. Therefore, wear clothing that can be easily put on and taken off. Cardigan would be perfect for this.
